The last decade has seen the proliferation of multinational clinical trials having sites in six or more countries, often spanning two or even three continents. The expansion of clinical trials to previously untapped locations has had many benefits:

  • Improved ability to maintain strong recruitment rates
  • Advanced capability to file/launch a new drug in many markets quickly

Along with the benefits, the shift to large multinational studies has also introduced difficulties:

  • Study teams are faced with increased logistical and administrative challenges
  • Technical infrastructure, time zones, multiple languages and remote locations of sites create new obstacles for data collection and communication.

In this panel discussion, pharmaceutical industry professionals currently working on global clinical trials speak to these topics as well as strategies they have employed to execute their multinational trials successfully.
