The Once-in-a-Lifetime Technology Innovation Wave Is Here - Again!
There are three technologies that appear to be living up to the hype — cloud, mobile and collaboration. This became even clearer to me when I recently attended Gartner Symposium/ITxpo Symposium 2010, with these three technologies taking center stage during the conference.

With recent movie releases like Tron and mega-tradeshows like CES, the Consumer Electronic Show, technological innovations appear to know no bounds. Tablets, 3D-TVs and über-networked gaming consoles are all the rage. The operative word in that tradeshow’s name, however, is “Consumer”. Consumer electronics generate those wow effects, prodding us all to buy new gadgets while wondering exactly for what purpose!
Technology innovations in the corporate world elicit less of a visceral response but can be equally as exciting and transformative. Often, the level of hype surrounding such potentially transformative technologies far outpaces an enterprise’s ability to integrate those advances into their business processes. Nevertheless, there are three technologies that appear to be living up to the hype — cloud, mobile and collaboration. This became even clearer to me when I recently attended Gartner Symposium/ITxpo Symposium 2010, with these three technologies taking center stage during the conference.
In their era, client-server computing, laptops, and modems generated change in business operations with a speed never before realized. That kind of change is happening today with new platforms and modes of interactivity delivered by cloud, mobile and social solutions. Gartner Research forecasts cloud-based computing services to grow at a compound annual growth rate of more than 20% through 2014, closing in on $150 billion in annual spend. Mobile is growing at a ferocious clip. Using Apple products as proxy, the projected 12+ million iPads and 47 million iPhones sold in 2010 will be up from fewer than the 21 million iPhones sold in 2009. And Salesforce.com is combining all three themes into its new Chatter social collaboration platform, which has thousands of users within single enterprises such as Dell. Indeed these are exciting times for both technology and business professionals for enabling and achieving ever greater levels of productivity.
I’m both proud and excited that my company’s own offerings leverage these three converging waves of innovation. Every day, tens of thousands of business professionals use Intralinks’ secure collaboration environment in the cloud to share content in an auditable and compliant manner. Only time can build a successful brand for a cloud-based solution provider — and our more than 10 years in the cloud has established that for us. Our solutions are used on mobile devices such as BlackBerrys and iPhones. And, our platform was designed from its inception to facilitate collaboration across and within companies.
In Intralinks’ markets — virtual datarooms for debt syndication, mergers and acquisitions, and a myriad of enterprise use cases in industries including life sciences and legal – our solutions deliver highly sought-after efficiencies and cost savings. Every day Intralinks delivers benefits via cloud, mobile and collaboration capabilities to our customers around the world. This wave of technology innovation will prove to be like nothing individuals and enterprises have ever seen. The once-in-a-lifetime technology revolution is upon us in 2011 — again!
