File sharing isn’t working – and the pun is intended.

Simple file sharing apps may be great for our everyday lives, but they don’t offer the necessary controls to be trusted in an enterprise setting. And these apps fall short of enabling true collaboration and getting productive work done. That’s why today we’re announcing Intralinks VIA, a new solution for secure enterprise collaboration.

Intralinks VIA™ makes it easy to sync, share & unshare files, work efficiently on group projects, and manage content wherever it goes – all with the most robust security and control capabilities on the market today.

Our strategy in developing Intralinks VIA was colored by our experience. Intralinks pioneered the SaaS-based content collaboration market back in the late ‘90s and that has given us great insight into how people get business results from sharing content. And we know first-hand what’s important for enterprise adoption. Over 800 of the global Fortune 1000 have relied on our products, often to support some of the most financially sensitive, high-stakes collaborations imaginable, like a merger or acquisition. We’ve been listening to our enterprise customers, and here’s what they told us:

  1. “File sharing is great, but it’s a means to an end…it’s not the end.”
File sharing tools solve the problem of getting broader access to content, but it is not a proxy for true collaboration and doesn’t guarantee productive business results.
  2. “Infrastructure security is important, but what happens when content leaves the infrastructure I control?”
Tools that grant the freedom to share actually increase the need to control. Content security needs to guard against two threats – malicious attempts to get access to valuable information, and the endless ability of humans to do stupid things. In fact, Forrester found that most data breaches are a result of human blunders (62%), such as sending a file to the wrong distribution list. Deliberate hacking was only 23%.
  3. “Wherever possible, I want to keep using the systems and tools I have today, like SharePoint. I’ve invested in them, and want to extend their value, not replace them.”
  4. KISS Me: "Address all of the above and keep the user experience insanely simple!"

We built Intralinks VIA to deliver on all these requirements. This isn’t just another sync and share product: Intralinks VIA goes well beyond file sharing to ensure that productive work gets done and is not just distributed, while protecting that work wherever it goes. We make sure you keep control of all your valuable content with unique capabilities like our “unshare” feature, which allows you to retract a document whenever you want, no matter where it’s located. It takes care of those “Oh @#$%!” moments and gives you lifetime control of your files. Our view? Nobody else can offer this level of control and no other product offers this degree of liberation to work productively beyond-the-firewall with your customers, partners and work colleagues.
