Aimed at helping business leaders assess platforms, Forrester outlines the important considerations surrounding document collaboration. These include the solution’s “untapped business value,” the “mobile and cross-organizational” nature of information and the emphasis on the importance of content in the business process. Many businesses do not realize the potential benefits of strong collaboration.

These trends point to industry leaders because they enable greater access to information. By using a secure means to exchange information, organizations increase the “‘findability’ of critical intellectual capital.” Businesses call for increased mobility because the ability to collaborate, synchronize and share anywhere improves efficiency. Simply put, businesses compete in today’s markets with these tools. They must incorporate this content across the business process and maximize information, inciting demand for dynamic collaboration solutions which spur new, creative offerings. Vendors develop new technologies in response. Business needs effective, secure exchange to achieve success.

In outlining the varying offerings of the market, Forrester calls Intralinks “the leader in secure document collaboration, establishing the cloud as a natural DMZ [de-militarized zone/ perimeter network] for cross-organizational workflow long before the term ‘cloud’ was in vogue.” Forrester presents Intralinks VIA as an “enterprise file-sharing and collaboration product with sync and share.” Intralinks VIA’s “strategy will include extended security, including document recall capabilities” to ensure that information never falls into the wrong hands.

This research exposes the expanding need for secure document collaboration and identifies the vendor offerings and their strengths.
