Ready for the ModelOff XL Smackdown?

ModelOff is back for 2015, and the industry’s best financial professionals and students are ready to put their financial modeling skills to the test.

28 September 2015

It’s that time of year again — time for the world’s top financial modelers to unite for this year’s Financial Modeling World Championship competition, ModelOff.

That’s right. ModelOff is back, and the industry’s best financial professionals and students from all over the world are getting ready to put their financial modeling skills to the ultimate test.

For the second year, Intralinks is proud to partner with the Professional Services Champions League (PSCL) to sponsor this innovative competition. "Financial modelling and the use of excel are core to the M&A process and as such we are thrilled to be part of this exciting competition, said Matt Porzio, vice president of strategy and product marketing. "As many of our Intralinks Dealspace® users will compete globally this year, the partnership with ModelOff allows us to further engage the dealmaking community beyond improving and accelerating execution."

In 2014, ModelOff attracted over 4,000 entries from more than 100 countries. Using their modeling speed, innovation, data and risk understanding skills, entrants competed for the grand prize and prestige of being known as the world’s best financial modeler. Last year, Deutsche Bank’s Diarmuid “The Diamond” Early took home the grand prize and title of ModelOff champion.

This year we’re expecting over 5,000 entries. Who will be the reigning victor?

Financial Modeling: Key to Business Success

To be successful in business, every organization needs to make smart business decisions — and that’s where financial modeling can help.

A strong financial model requires advanced strategic thinking. There are tons of financial models you can use, but the challenge is knowing what type of model to use and when.

ModelOff helps both professionals and students master their financial modeling skills, which is why Intralinks is proud to sponsor the competition. The primary skills used in financial modeling are the same ones that help solve important business decisions every day by professionals in the M&A, corporate finance, banking, portfolio management, and investment communities, among other finance sectors.

How to Enter this Year’s ModelOff Competition

If you want to compete in this year’s ModelOff competition, here is some helpful information.

To participate, all you need is a computer, Internet access, and Excel.

The first two rounds are held online — Round 1 on October 17, 2015 and Round 2 on October 31, 2015. Individuals enter the first round, and those who advance will move on to to the second round. Individuals competing in these rounds will work through a number of challenging case studies, some which may require building a financial model (For more information on case studies, check out the ModelOff Framework.).

Then, the top 16 competitors from the online rounds will move on to December’s live finals event, which will take place this year in London. There, participants will be expected to answer a range of challenging questions that will test their data and risk understanding, speed, best practice modeling theory, and more, in front of world-class judges.

Good luck to everyone participating this year! To prepare for the online rounds, check out our global training camp, and for more financial modeling tips and tricks, click here.
