The Changing Face of GP/LP Communications
The way fund managers communicate with investors is quickly changing. Shifting expectations and requirements from limited partners (LPs) paired with new technologies that can be implemented quickly and efficiently are combining to drive this change.

Where reports on high levels of returns alone would once satisfy investors, they now want to know more. Beyond just the data, they want assurances as to the quality of the information, how often it will be delivered, and whether a standardized methodology is applied. A general partner’s (GP) communication strategy is now a competitive factor in manager selection.
Given the changing landscape, we see that a central challenge the alternative investments market faces is meeting LP requirements while continuing to maintain easy back-end administration on the GP side. It’s critical that our product investments continue to address these challenges, so that our customers can stay ahead of the curve.
So, how do we get there? We believe there are four key priorities that we need to focus on in the near-term, so that our technology can truly be relevant to our customers:
- Enhance LP satisfaction with more standardization and transparency in reporting
- Increase efficiency for GPs with faster setup and reduced back-end administration
- Give GPs more control over how they showcase performance information
- Continually improve information flow
Intralinks’ new user experience (UI) for alternative investments — released this week — starts to bring these priorities to life. Our aim with this release is to upgrade our platform to provide an improved experience and easier navigation for capital raising, portfolio management, dealmaking, and LP communications processes.
For us it’s not just about keeping up — we’re always trying to stay a step ahead of our customers’ needs by continually investing in solutions that streamline the processes of GP’s and LP’s.
Through our internal benchmarking we found that most processes in the new UX are now 2x-4x faster1 compared to our previous UI. This release has already proven its value in keeping our customers ahead of the curve.
Our new UI for alternative investments features innovations across the board that make fundraising and fund reporting simpler and faster.
This is only the beginning. For us it’s not just about keeping up — we’re always trying to stay a step ahead of our customers’ needs by continually investing in solutions that streamline the processes of GP’s and LP’s. In line with our vision to meet and exceed our top customer needs, our future releases will include easier management of fund exchanges and greater control over how data is shared. Emerging investment areas include the incorporation of in-depth data into the platform for deeper analytics and insights.
