Q2 2020 SS&C Intralinks Deal Flow Predictor: Asia-Pacific Region to Power Global M&A Growth in 2020

In a close-run race, APAC just comes out on top

Dealmakers in Asia-Pacific have something to celebrate. The latest issue of the SS&C Intralinks Deal Flow Predictor report forecasts that the number of APAC M&A announcements is expected to rise by 6 percent year-over-year in the first half of 2020. That puts APAC at the top of the global leaderboard, ahead of both North America and Europe with forecast growth of 5 and 4 percent, respectively.

The SS&C Intralinks Deal Flow Predictor is compiled by tracking early-stage M&A transactions, across the world, that are in preparation or have begun their due diligence stage. These early-stage deals are, on average, six months away from their public announcement.

Within APAC, Japan, India and South Korea are expected to announce higher numbers of deals in H1 to lead the growth in M&A activity. China and Hong Kong have felt some early impact from the coronavirus but it’s too early to say what the mid- to long-term effects of what this may have on these forecasts.

The strongest growth in APAC early-stage dealmaking is coming from the Materials, Consumer & Retail, and Healthcare sectors.
