Last week Facebook released their Global Government Requests Report offering details on official requests for personal data from governments around the world. The report shed light on the number of data requests Facebook actually received, how many users or accounts were affected by those requests and the percentage of requests with which Facebook was required to comply.
September 23, 2013 is the deadline for compliance with HIPAA‘s new regulations. In the beginning of this year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued its Final Omnibus Rule, which modified the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. The Final Rule was designed to strengthen the privacy and security protections established under HIPAA, and among other things, extends many of the privacy and security requirements of HIPAA to organizations that service the healthcare industry.
The amount of data being exchanged in the healthcare industry is growing exponentially. As the volume of medical data grows, the need to store, access and protect this information also increases.
