Abu Dhabi Airports (ADAC)

In 2006, Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), a public joint-stock company created to spearhead the development of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s aviation industry, initiated an AED 30 billion (USD $8 billion) redevelopment program to transform Abu Dhabi International Airport into a “best-in-class” facility.

“Intralinks was secure, reliable and flexible to our needs. We saved considerable time and money, and would definitely use the solution again for other projects.”

- Roman Vdovenko, Senior Business Analyst, Abu Dhabi Airports Company

ADAC turned to Intralinks and was able to securely share project details with a global investor audience and embark on one of the largest airport redevelopment initiatives in the world.

The Situation

ADAC’s redevelopment program was created to transform Abu Dhabi International Airport into one of, if not the world’s leading facilities. Managing the flow of confidential information, securing bids from qualified investors from all over the globe, and successfully completing the process without delay was of paramount importance.

The Problem

To secure the necessary funding, ADAC wanted to market to international investors. The company needed a secure, reliable solution to distribute information and design proposals to potential investors around the globe.

The Implications

Traditional methods, such as couriers and overnight delivery, to distribute documents on CD/DVD to bidders would be time consuming, costly and add security concerns. ADAC also realized that to ensure a level playing field, bidders needed access to exactly the same information at the same time.

The Solution

ADAC quickly realized that an online workspace would help them reach international investors quickly and securely — and selected Intralinks because of its ability to provide the type of centralized document repository ADAC needed to securely store and distribute large volumes of data. Potential investors would be able to view information simultaneously, as soon as documents were made available, from anywhere in the world. Furthermore, with Intralinks’ reporting capability, ADAC could easily track who was viewing what information at what time.

The Result

From the brief to implementation, the exchange set up took just five days. Intralinks provided ADAC with the training and support it needed to design its exchange for the benefit of the investor bidders. Following the comprehensive training program, ADAC commented that the management of the project was an easy process that was simple to administer, and they appreciated Intralinks being reliable and flexible to its needs.

The Benefit

ADAC used Intralinks exchanges to share project details with existing investors and to market to new investors as well. In 2009, Abu Dhabi International Airport received the ‘New Development of the Year’ Award by the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA), recognizing a number of airport expansion and redevelopment initiatives, including the addition of a state of the art Terminal 3, which increased capacity by five million passengers per year, and the near completion of a new air traffic control tower.
