How do I connect Claude to confidential deal information?
Connecting Claude to confidential M&A information requires a different approach from simply uploading deal documents into an AI application. Transaction materials can contain financial statements, contracts, intellectual property, employee information and other sensitive data that already sits behind carefully configured permissions.
For deal teams, the objective should be to give Claude controlled access to the information required for a specific task without creating unnecessary copies of confidential documents or bypassing the governance surrounding the transaction.
Model Context Protocol (MCP) provides one way to create that connection. Instead of moving documents out of the deal environment, an MCP-compatible application such as Claude can interact with authorized information through a standardized interface. For M&A organizations, however, the security architecture around that connection is just as important as the connection itself.
Connect Claude to the data instead of moving documents
A basic AI workflow might involve downloading documents from a virtual data room (VDR), saving them locally and then uploading them to an AI application.
That process separates the information from the controls governing the original deal room. It can create additional copies, introduce version-control issues and make it more difficult to maintain consistent oversight of how confidential information is being accessed.
MCP offers an alternative. An MCP server can provide Claude with structured access to information maintained within another system, allowing the AI application to search or analyze authorized data through the connection.
For M&A, the principle behind DealCentre MCP is to bring AI to the deal data rather than routinely moving deal data into external AI workflows. The transaction platform can remain the secure system of record while Claude provides an interface for working with permitted information.
Preserve permissions and governance across AI interactions
Connecting Claude to a deal room should not automatically give it unrestricted access to every document in the transaction.
AI access should inherit the permissions of the individual making the request. If a user cannot view a confidential folder or document within the deal platform, the connected AI application should not be able to retrieve information from it on that user's behalf.
Auditability is another requirement. Organizations should be able to understand who initiated an AI interaction, which application was used and what action occurred. This extends traditional deal-room governance to machine interactions with transaction information.
These principles are becoming fundamental to secure AI for dealmaking. General-purpose AI can provide valuable reasoning and analysis, but financial institutions need connectivity models that preserve information boundaries rather than treating AI as a separate, unrestricted data environment.
Use Claude with DealCentre Connect
SS&C Intralinks DealCentre Connect is designed to connect preferred external AI applications, including Claude, with DealCentre through secure MCP and API integrations.
DealCentre MCP is a remote MCP server built into DealCentre. It enables MCP-compatible applications to work with live deal-room content without requiring users to manually download and re-upload documents. Intralinks states that deal data remains within its environment and is not permitted to be used to train external or third-party models.
Access is validated against the user's existing DealCentre permissions. This means established controls, including buyer-group isolation, role-based groups and confidential Q&A boundaries, continue to govern information accessed through connected AI applications. AI interactions are also auditable.
Claude can therefore become one component of a broader deal intelligence architecture rather than a separate repository for transaction documents.
DealCentre Connect also works alongside Link, Intralinks' purpose-built AI engine within DealCentre AI™. Link supports deal-specific workflows such as document summarization, information extraction and conversational Q&A, while DealCentre Connect provides flexibility to use external tools such as Claude for additional workflows.
Connecting Claude to confidential deal information should ultimately be an exercise in controlled interoperability. MCP can establish the technical connection, but permissions, governance, auditability and data control determine whether that connection is appropriate for M&A. Keeping those controls attached to the deal environment allows teams to take advantage of Claude while maintaining oversight of their most sensitive transaction information.
